While working on a big commission this summer, I decided to do a small series of birds with some of the beautifully striped baltic birch plywood scraps, which made the wing, head and beak of this piece. The body is made from a scrap of maple cutting board, and the eye is a beautiful piece of blue and gray stained plywood with a large orange pencil to make the pupil. The bird's breast and both sides of the maple base have embedded pencils in shades of purple.
Group shot shows the four birds I made for this collection.
It measures 12.5 inches high, 6 inches wide and a 2.5 inches deep.
One of a kind, signed and dated on the bottom.
