Delicioso

This collage is an exploration of the lush, rhythmic growth of vining aroids—tropical jungle plants often found thriving indoors in this part of the world. The title Delicioso refers to the Monstera deliciosa, a plant frequently misidentified as a "Split-leaf Philodendron." While these two genera are distinct, they are often conflated in our cultural lexicon, much like the tangled vines they produce.

To create this piece, I hand-cut hundreds of individual elements from colored sign vinyl, placing them one by one to build a dense, vining energy. I moved away from the classic heart-shaped leaf, focusing instead on the iconic split-leaf silhouettes and the way they seem to reach and climb. For me, Delicioso is about that labor of assembly—mimicking the slow, steady way a vine claims a space, one hand-placed leaf at a time.
