In early 2016, I was asked to participate in an invitational show at the Center for Art in Wood in 2017 of mangle boards, inspired by the incredible book by Jay Raymond. The show will pair traditional mangle boards with 15 contemporary renditions, including mine, titled "Pussy Grabs Back."
Statement: My first design impulse was to make my mangle board to celebrate our first woman President, thinking that it was a great way to allude to the functions of this antiquated homemaker’s tool. When that didn’t work out as planned, I started working with my second design impulse: to take inspiration from the beautiful Icelandic boards I’d seen in illustrations and make my board in the shape of an animal. As the organization of the Women’s March approached, a third plan emerged: my desired feminist statement required a very angry pussycat.
