Sou'Wester

On March 8 2020, I arrived at an artists residency at the Sou’Wester, a vintage trailer resort in Seaview, WA. My home for the week was the Bluebird Bus. When I stepped out onto my porch the first morning, I decided to make a large collage using the colors of my residency—the whites, grays and blues of the sky, greens and browns of the landscape, and airstream silver and barn red of the dwellings. Over the course of the next three days, I hand cut thousands of individual shapes from sign vinyl and shelf papers, building my composition one piece at a time. As I worked, the news from the outside world was coming in waves, each day another major advancement in the Coronavirus epidemic. This collage reminds me of those last few days of bliss before the sequestering commenced.
