Timber

Timber begins with a symbol of industrial standardization: a distorted, split, and splintered 2x2" salvaged from a commercial hardware store. At its peak, a red-shafted flicker is caught in the perpetual act of pecking this poorly milled piece of lumber back into a living tree. It is a storytelling object that documents both our heavy-handed extraction of the natural world and nature’s stubborn, resilient insistence on reclaiming its own forms.
